Snippets: Conids, paper and more

Happy Friday, everyone. Some quickfire updates for you…

Paper: good and bad

Good news first. GLP’s the Author notebook is now available in a range of colours from Amazon, and a special festive red edition is available too. Same great flexible format with Tomoe paper, same price (around £20), but a beautiful blue and bright red. Recommended.

My rabbit George was quite taken with them, too.

I can also highly recommend calligraphy paper from a brand called Archie’s. They sent me a few pads a while back, printed with a variety of guides for Spencerian, Italic and other hands. Since I am useless at calligraphy I have struggled to put them to good use, but suffice it to say the paper performs absolutely flawlessly, and the guides are printed “just right”: faint enough to get out of the way, but dark enough to be useful.

Now the bad news. Absolutely DO NOT buy the linen notebooks from Graf von Faber-Castell. I bought two at half price, and I’ve given them to my daughter. Despite being thick, the paper has absolutely terrible showthrough and bleedthrough. These are beautiful notebooks, but not suited to fountain pens.

You wait ages for a Conid…

…then two come along at once. I finally jumped into the Conid world with both feet. Incoming is a Minimalistica Monarch with the orange accents, and by the end of January I should have my first Regular Bulkfiller too. Thanks to London Fountain Pens for weakening my resolve. Look out for reviews.

Sale update

Thanks to those of you who bought pens in my latest sale. I quickly sent off my Pilot 823, Diplomat Aero, Parker Duofold and Graf Guilloche to new homes.

Still on sale are the Pineider, Pilot Fermo, Lamy Dialog 3 and Kaweco Dia 2. If you’re interested, make me an offer. I have Conids to pay for!
